Public Relations Intern

Position Summary
Flannery Public Relations offers fall, spring, and summer semester paid and for-credit internships. You’ll experience the day-to-day operations of a PR firm that serves multiple industries. This internship will provide the student with professional experience in all phases of public relations and social media relations. You will participate in and perform tasks for both the agency and its clients. This experience includes an internship in popular industries such as finance, marketing, healthcare, fitness, culinary, fashion and more!

Responsibilities 
The 2010 internship positions may include: attend client meetings, updating client media lists and regional databases; assemble press kits; assist in the planning and promotion of events; conduct research into media inquiries; write original content for talking points, backgrounders and press materials; and compile news clip files.

Qualifications 
We are looking for interns who are currently majoring in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, and/or Marketing, and can offer credible PR and administrative skills to this fast-paced work environment. We require an intern that is able to multi-task, is able to work independently, has excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to high quality service. Personal transportation to and from our office in Brighton, New York is a must. Must be a full-time student enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a BA, BS, MA or certification.


Social Networking Intern

Position Summary
This position provides an opportunity for a forward-thinking student who wants a first-hand look at how small to mid sized companies are using social media as a marketing tool. We’re looking for someone who understands social media ethics and best practices to fill this position. Applicants should possess a good understanding of Search Engine Optimization, Web Analytics, and the mechanics of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, TypePad, and other emerging tools. This is an unpaid for-credit semester internship, so we are looking for a candidate from a university that allows for credit-based internships. This could lead to a staff paid position once your credit obligation is fulfilled.

Responsibilities
The Social Networking Intern will be responsible for developing a strategy around Social Media, including growing an audience externally, implementing tools into existing web sites, and measuring performance. The selected candidate will also help us manage our social media accounts and coordinate blog posts (2-3 per week) on our company blog site. The position also entails monitoring and reporting on social media tools and trends, and contributing to relevant social networking sites to keep the organization engaged with potential clients. The candidate may also have the opportunity to participate in the creation of the company’s viral marketing campaign.

Qualifications

  • Must be a full-time student enrolled in an accredited college/university or trade school pursuing a BA, BS, MA or certification.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience working with social network sites.
  • Must have a very good understanding of social networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and other immerging sites.
  • Must have a basic understanding of HTML
  • Demonstrates good communication skills
